Services
I offer repair services on a case by case basis. The process for having a clock serviced/repaired proceeds as follows:
Free Initial Assessment: Once you have contacted me and dropped off your clock at my home workshop, I will disassemble it where necessary to ascertain its condition (examining mainsprings, transmission, pivot holes, etc) and take notes of any faults. At this stage, I take photographs of the item to correspond with any notes. Once I have evaluated the repairs necessary to restore functionality, I will contact you to provide an estimate. If you are happy, I will proceed with the repair.
Work Begins: I will perform the repair as required, while taking care to preserve any historically important components. This isn’t always possible, but advises my approach as to the techniques/methods I use when working, with respect to the history of the timekeeper. Usually, a clock will require the pivots to be burnished, any worn pivot holes be bushed, and sometimes the replacement of a mainspring, though this varies from clock to clock.
Work is Completed: Once I have the clock has been repaired, it is placed on test for several weeks, during which I am able to regulate it, and make sure everything runs as expected. The clock is wound when necessary, and adjusted to keep time as accurately as possible.
Collection: When all the work is done, I will contact you via the details you provide when dropping off the clock to let you know the repair has been completed successfully at which point we can discuss a time for collection and payment.
Things to note…
All clocks are guaranteed for 12 months following repair work (excluding mainsprings + unless otherwise specified).
Estimates are provided as opposed to quotes, as sometimes issues can’t be diagnosed until complete disassembly. Any adjustment in price/length of repair will be communicated with you and your consent for repair to continue given beforehand (though this is rare).
Should you require advice/instruction on how to wind, or otherwise look after your clock, I can advise you over the phone, or in person at your collection appointment. In some instances, I may provide you with a small document with some care instructions.
If you have your clock assessed, but decide not to go through with the repair, I will return the clock to the condition it was in upon arrival, and arrange for it to be collected by you at your earliest convenience, no charge.
At this time I am not taking on any wristwatch jobs. This is something I have some, but not a great amount of experience with, and I would prefer to focus on clocks.
